Broken Promises
My grandmother volunteered with the Red Cross in WW1. She looked very smart in her nurses uniform.
I volunteer, albeit with a local museum. I don’t save lives or anything, but it’s nice to do something for the community.

How did 1975 effect your family? here's mine...
by Aussie Oz ini just spent a few days with my dad.
i asked a few questions about the time when mum became a witness which i know is still, 38 years later, a painful thing for him to talk about.
in the course of it, he also learned some stuff that he did not know about the pressures of the times.. as i expected, mum and dad have different versions of this time, and it is pretty hard to find the real truth in it and in some ways it does not matter anymore.. mums version: she first was contacted in echuca late 1960s and dad put a stop to it.

My Dad was an elder since the late 60s and yet to the day he died, he swore that the Society never said anything about 1975!! I don’t know if it was just denial of the true events or what.
Ironically, I remember him talking about Beth Serim and the Org’s old thinking about Abraham et al coming back in the 1920s. But he explained it all by saying it was “old light” and how the “lighter gets lighter”.
I was only 5 going on 6 in 1975 so I don’t remember a lot, plus we had my mum’s cancer to deal with so that probably was the dominant issue in my life.

Planted a seed today... Update on de-program of my 16 year old son
by Aussie Oz inwell, some of you know that i have a 16 year old son who lives with his jw mother.
she has already mastered the art of guilt control on him.
i am most anxious that he not get baptized at all or at least unless he has really understood the whole truth, not just the watchtower truth.

Is this secret code for 'have an affair with me' ?
by tec ini would just like some opinions on something that seems strange to me.
there is a man at my sons' school who comes every day to pick up his daughter.
he has always been friendly with me, and i am friendly back, which is fine.

Tec, I think you handled the situation very well.
It has been a funny thread, though!

Funny moments at the field service
by XPeterX ini once went door to door with a 300+ lbs (fat) elder and the first guy who came out told him:"you should look like him" pointing at me with his finger.at first i didn't realise what he was talking about.at the end the man said to the elder clearly:"lose that fat and get thin like that young man (me)"the elder got embarassed and said "ok i will" (never did tho) but i couldn't stop laughing .

I agree that it is a fad, a recent fashion. If it wasn’t for the prevalence of porn on the internet, I doubt it would be as widely known as it is today.
My experience has shown that guys over 40 don’t care so much for it, but younger guys do.

Have you read Diane Wilson's book "Awakening of Jehovah's Witness"?
by mentallyfree31 ini just finished "awakening of a jehovah's witness" by diane wilson today.
wow - what a story.
it's heart-wrenching - the struggle she faced while trying to break free from wt.

I enjoyed the first half of the book but I think she gets too technical with the WT doctrines. The conclusion also seems hurried, like she wanted to get the book finished before the publisher changed his mind!
